MALTA-Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Ulrich 66, a much-loved husband and father, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes after a long struggle with heart disease.

Rosary and a celebration of his life will be Thursday December 28, 2017 at 6:30 P.M., St. Mary’s Church. Following the rosary, all are invited to the wake at the Tin Cup. Many thanks to Jane Ereaux for her thoughtfulness and generosity. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s on Friday December 29, 2017, at 10:00 AM with a luncheon immediately following. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Knights of Columbus.

He was born to Roger H. and Audrey A. (Stubblefield) Ulrich in Glasgow Montana and raised in Malta. He attended Malta Grade and High School, The College of Great Falls and Mount Hood Community College majoring in Mortuary Science. Kenny met his 1st love and always friend, Janice Ruud in Malta. They were married on June 26, 1971. They later divorced. In 1989, Kenny met Lana Fortin and married her on February 24, 1990.

Clicl for larger imge    Kenny was the Superintendent at the Marian Hills Golf Course for approximately 20 years prior to his retirement. He went on to form his own business enterprise called Evergreen Lawn Service. He took great pride in the jobs he did for individuals, the Malta High School; where he took great pride in preparing the football field for the home games, and was still working for the City of Malta upon his death.

Even with his busy schedule, it was not acceptable to miss any family event. He was his child, Jason’s greatest fan—subtle but ever present. He enjoyed all animals and cared for many cats, dogs over the years. He was an artist in many ways, woodworking, decorating, and building. He enjoyed sports; golf, fishing, watching and listening to the Malta sports teams. These pastimes gave him an excuse to visit and tell stories, always enjoying wherever he was and the people he was with. When he could no longer attend these events he listened on the radio or watched on the computer. He was an ever patient, pleasant, good sense of humor and kind man. He was involved in many organizations and an avid participant in all. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a lector and sacristan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Kenny is survived by his loving wife Lana of Malta; son Jason (Jamie) of Malta, grandchildren: Zachary and Addison, his aunt Thelma Bjorklund and her husband Gary of Cut Bank; as well as numerous cousins nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother.

Ken was a big part of our lives, Especially Dave's. Ken's love and knowledge of local history was amazing. Ken's posts on his "Phillips County Memories" site are going to be missed by a lot of people.

I enjoyed helping Ken prepare food for the K of C fish fry the past few years. We had some great visits and I learned a bit about cooking for large groups. He put a lot of time in to the K of C, fish fry's, raffle ticket sales and much more.

Ken will always be included in my prayers.

Lana and Family: Just heard of Ken's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. "Leroy" was my college roommate. Both of us were muscle car nuts and Class B sports fans so we got along great. We met up again when I took a teaching job in Malta. Ken was a great guy and will be sorely missed. Again, very sorry for your loss.
